Brian Keith Haug

A Lady Lake sex offender was arrested last week after failing to comply with a requirement to report a professional license.

Brian Keith Haug, 44, who lives at 101 4th St. in Lady Lake was arrested Thursday while attempting to register as a sex offender, which he is required to do four times a year. During the process, he told a clerk that he has licenses related to his home improvement business, Outdoor Innovations, and has never provided them when registering before and didn’t think he was required to do so, a sheriff’s office report states.

Haug, who was convicted of rape on April 23, 1996 in Madison County, Ga. and has been registering as a sex offender in Florida since Dec. 28, 2005, then refused to provide the business license information, as well as details about upcoming out-of-state travel plans, the report says.

A sheriff’s deputy and detective met with Haug and told him that he needed to provide the information being sought by the clerk. He was argumentative and eventually was arrested and transported to the Lake County Jail, where he was charged with failing to comply with sex offender registration law. He was released Friday morning on his own recognizance and is due in court Oct. 21 at 8:30 a.m. to answer to the charge.
