K. Carl Smith

The Sumter County Chapter of Trump Team 2020 Florida is preparing to host a nationally recognized author in The Villages who touts his love of the Constitution and is known as a defender of liberty.

K. Carl Smith will speak during a free event Sunday, Oct. 20 from 4-6 p.m. at the Rohan Recreation Center. He is the creator of the Frederick Douglass Republican Engagement Strategy and has spent more than 11 years empowering thousands of conservatives with outreach strategies.

Smith, considered an expert on diversity outreach, recently was chosen by the Trump campaign to serve on its Coalition Advisory Board. He has appeared before more than 300 conservative, Republican and faith-based organizations, as well as on several national television and radio talk shows.

State Rep. Mike Hill

Smith, an Army veteran, is the author of “Frederick Douglass Republicans: The Movement to Re-Ignite America’s Passion for Liberty.” He also is the father of two children and has seven grandchildren.

State Rep. Mike Hill also will speak at the event. He is the sponsor of a bill that ban abortions if a fetal heartbeat is detected. He filed similar legislation last year, but this version takes away any medical exceptions, including if the mother’s life is in danger. The 2018 version of the bill had included exceptions in cases of rape, incest, domestic violence, human trafficking or if the mother’s life was in danger. That bill didn’t move forward in the Legislature.

Saturday’s event also will offer a local flair, as Sumter County Sheriff Bill Farmer is scheduled to sing the national anthem. The longtime sheriff is known throughout the region for his singing prowess and has performed “The Star Bangled Banner” at many events hosted by area clubs and groups.
