A scorned Spruce Creek woman sitting near bottles of Skyy Vodka and Fireball whiskey was jailed Thursday night after a nasty altercation with her man friend over his Facebook activity.
A Marion County sheriff’s deputy spoke with 59-year-old Rhonda K. Babb at her residence on SE 104th Circle and reported that that she had bloodshot, watery eyes and he smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage.
Babb told the deputy that she and a man friend had been drinking earlier in the evening and she had then checked his Facebook activity on his cell phone. She said she caught the man contacting someone else and went into the bedroom and threw his phone down on the bed, a sheriff’s office report states.
Babb said she confronted the man and claimed he then pushed her to the ground, put his left leg on the side of her neck and made statements of wanting to hit her, the report says, noting that the deputy didn’t observe any sign of redness on the side of Babb’s neck.
The man told the deputy he was lying in bed asleep when Babb came into his room and accused him of contacting someone else. He said she threw a phone and it struck the left side of his face, the report says.
The man claimed that Babb then got on top of him and started yelling at him before he pushed her away. The deputy noted that the man had a mark on his face where the phone struck him and he had to tell Babb multiple times to leave the room while he was speaking with the man, the report says.
Babb was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with domestic battery. She was released Friday on $500 bond and is due in court on Nov. 7 at 8 a.m. to answer to the charge.
