Eric Paul Miglin

A shoplifting suspect armed with an open-carry knife was arrested Sunday night at Wal-Mart at Buffalo Ridge Plaza in The Villages.

Eric Paul Miglin, 35, of Fruitland Park, was placed in handcuffs by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies at about 9 p.m. after he was found to be in possession of $168.67 worth of stolen merchandise. The merchandise included a Google Chromecast streaming device, Blackweb headphones and two flashlights, according to the arrest report.

“The defendant was secured in handcuffs due to the defendant having an open carried knife on his side,” the deputy wrote in the arrest report.

A search of a backpack Miglin was carrying turned up two syringes, methamphetamine, marijuana and a glass pipe.

He was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, theft and possession of drug equipment. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $8,100 bond.
