Driver of box truck arrested in The Villages after alleged road rage incident

The driver of a white box truck was arrested in The Villages after an alleged road rage incident.

A man said he had been traveling shortly before 11 p.m. Monday on County Road 25 when he passed the driver of the box truck who became “irate” and began tailgating him, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

He drove through two businesses before he went to RaceTrac on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 in Lady Lake, where the box truck followed him as he drove through the gas pumps. He continued on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and did a U-turn at Griffin View Drive and the box truck continued to tailgate him.

In desperation, the man drove to the Lady Lake Police Department and began honking his horn. He spotted a police officer and told him about the tailgating. The driver of the box truck apparently realized what was happening, backed into a Department of Transportation sign and then fled the scene.

Matthew Peacock

The box truck was stopped at U.S. Hwy. 27/441 near the Boone Gate on the Historic Side of The Villages.

The driver was identified as 26-year-old Matthew Peacock of Winston-Salem, N.C.

Peacock told police he had been drinking at the County Line Bar on County Road 25. He denied being involved in the incident, even though he was identified by the other driver.

Peacock was arrested on charges of hit and run and reckless driving. He was booked at the Lake County Jail, where bond was set at $1,000.
