‘Stupid’ Lady Lake man to answer to judge after botched shoe theft at Kohl’s

A Lady Lake man who admitted he was “stupid” for attempting to run from Kohl’s in a pair of stolen sneakers will have to explain himself to a judge.

Stefan Egger, 26, entered the store on Sunday afternoon, went to the shoe department and put on a pair of sneakers valued at $85.59, according to an incident report from the Lady Lake Police Department. He put the shoes he had been wearing into the box.

Wearing the sneakers for which he had not paid, Egger ran from the store but was apprehended by a police officer a short distance away.

“I know man, it’s about the sneakers. It was stupid of me,” Egger told the police officer. “I’m so stupid. I’ll never do this again, I swear. I just needed new sneakers.”

Egger was issued a notice to appear Nov. 21 in Lake County Court. He has been banned from that Kohl’s store.
