Staggering suspect captured on video before crashing at The Sharon at Spanish Springs

Robert Austin Wicker

A staggering suspect was captured on video before crashing his pickup truck at The Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center at Spanish Springs Town Square.

Robert Austin Wicker, 30, of Bushnell, was arrested last week on warrants charging him with leaving the scene of an accident and false report of the commission of a crime following detective work by the Lady Lake Police Department.

Wicker had been captured on video in the wee hours of Oct. 27 walking out of Margarita Republic at the square. He “is observed staggering along the fountain in the square before walking to his pickup truck,” according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Another security camera picked up Wicker’s pickup truck as it accelerated near the Marriott TownePlace Suites, traveling at a “high rate of speed” and creating a “huge cloud of smoke.” His truck crashed into a 2016 Chevy Tahoe, pushing it across the entry way of a parking lot, over a curb and into a concrete Sharon Morse Performing Arts sign,” the affidavit said.

Wicker at 8 a.m. that same day was at RaceTrac on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 in Lady Lake when he called law enforcement and claimed his truck had been stolen.

Wicker was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,500 bond.
