Villagers can mark Veterans Day in a variety of events

Villagers can pay tribute on Veterans Day in a variety of events:

A Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11 at Veterans Memorial Park in The Villages.

The Sounds of Scotland will be playing throughout the ceremony. Eric Ryan Anderson will be the speaker and Macey Mack will sing. Bricks that have been purchased this year will be dedicated during the ceremony.

Veterans Memorial Park is a pet-free park.

Parrot Heads Blood Drive

The Parrot Heads Club of The Villages will host a blood drive on Veterans Day in honor of those who defend our country.

One Blood’s Big Red Bus will be at The Villages Public Safety Department’s Station 44, at 3035 Morse Blvd. across from the Sarasota Practice Range., on Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All donors will receive a free Veterans Day T-shirt, free coupons to restaurants in The Villages and a wellness check-up of blood pressure, pulse, temperature, iron count and a cholesterol screening. All Alyx (double red cell) donors will receive a Rialto Theater movie ticket.

All blood types are needed. Walk-ins will be welcome.

Ride a Segway to help a disabled veteran

The Segway Riders Club of The Villages will host its bi-annual Segway Experience at the SeaBreeze Recreation Center. The event will be held Monday, Nov. 11 from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and no experience is required to participate.

Tickets for 30-minute rides are $30 and it includes safety and riding instruction, followed by a ride on local neighborhood streets. Some rides may be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Funds raised at the event will be used to purchase a Segway for a local disabled veteran to provide him/her greater mobility and freedom. The club partners with Chapter 150 of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), who select the veteran that receives the Segway and additional funds raised at the event.
