Nearly 100 Villagers mastered the Segway experience in honor of Veterans Day at  SeaBreeze Recreation Center.

Villager Andi Flanagan sports a custom helmet as she glides through the course.

The event was put on by the 370-member Villages Segway Riders Club to raise funds to enable the club to purchase a Segway for a local disabled veteran. The club partners with Chapter 150 of the Disabled American Veterans, who choose the recipient and helps with the funds for the purchase.

Villager Randy Atkins, left, follows Tom Kroener through the training course.

Riders each had a personal coach as well as a group teacher, Tom Kroeber, to help them master the machine. After learning the controls by moving through a course in the parking lot, they then headed out on a 20-minute ride through the nearby neighborhood.

Village of Hadley resident Lisa Bunch sports a big grin as she removes her helmet after completing the ride.

Lisa Bunch finished the ride with a big grin as she took off her helmet. She said it was a great feeling to glide along the trail on the Segway.

Sally Lippman of the Village of Osceola Hills masters the Segway.

The club holds this fundraiser in November and around Easter every year. Cost of the training fundraiser is $30. Not all the club members own their own machines but rent them for group rides, which are held several times a month. For more information on the Segway Club, visit https://www.srctv.org/
