Shane Knotts

A homeless person was arrested after allegedly stealing a bicycle from a residence on the Historic Side of The Villages.

An unresponsive female who had been riding a bicycle was found shortly after 1 p.m. Monday near the U.S. Post Office on the Historic Side of The Villages, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. Lake EMS arrived on the scene to treat the woman.

The owner of the bicycle the woman had been riding flagged down police and reported that the bicycle had been stolen from the carport of his home in the 800 block of Truman Avenue.

The woman’s companion, 44-year-old Shane Knotts, told police that he and the woman had been walking along and saw the bicycle under the carport. Knotts, who is homeless, said he stole it for her.

Knotts was arrested on charges of burglary and theft. He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $11,000 bond.
