Berniece S. Swanson, 95, of Wildwood, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2019.
Mrs. Swanson was born July 30, 1924 in Palm, FL to Oliver and Mabel (Frisby) Singleton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Carlisle Swanson, and daughter Cheryl Lynne. She is survived by her children, and Sherry Swanson of Zanesville, Ohio, Barbara and Alex Macdonell, of Clermont, and Deborah Lochrie, 10 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
A prodigy child raised in Ludlow, Kentucky, Berniece attended Midway Prep school for girls and graduated in 1942. She was an accomplished pianist vocalist and soloist who attended The Julliard School. She joined for the USO in Washington DC, and toured with Duke Ellington from Fort Dix, NJ to Miami.
She was an advocate for the Light House School for the blind in Tampa and The March of Dimes. She was a member of the First Baptist Church under the guidance of Brother Claude McAdams, where she taught Sunday school and was WMU president, choir member, piano and organist, and participated in many other activities. She was a fine seamstress and floral designer, and a great prayer warrior. Her purpose in life was to live to tell others about her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Visitation will be 5:30 – 6:30 pm with the service beginning at 6:30pm, Tuesday, November 26, 2019, in the Banks/Page-Theus Chapel. In lieu flowers contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or USO.
