To the Editor:

I have long treasured the fact that this community was built on premise that whether you’re wealthy, or living on a tight fixed budget, we are all one. We smile, we wave, we’re polite, and we do not feel compelled in any way to “Keep up with the Jones’s”.  This community was built on togetherness.
The lighting of the Christmas tree was established in 1912 and it served as a centerpiece of uniting communities in bringing forth peace, hope, and unity. It was meant to bring the “Christmas Spirit” to everyone, and it was never intended to be a money maker. To read that our community wants to charge people to enjoy the happiness of a long-standing tradition is unbelievable. I so hope that this does not happen as it will divide people. We will lose the beauty The Villages being a very special place for everyone … a community of people who cherish a place to live where everyone is equal.
