Vehicle overturns in near miss with unmarked FHP vehicle on I-75 in Sumter County

A vehicle overturned after a near miss Saturday afternoon with an unmarked Florida Highway Patrol vehicle on Interstate 75 in Sumter County.

Christa Dietrich, 41, of Clearwater, had been driving a 2019 Ford Fiesta at 1:11 p.m. traveling northbound on I-75 near Mile Marker 320 when she failed to slow for traffic, according to an accident report from FHP.

A vehicle overturned in a crash Saturday afternoon on Interstate 75 in Sumter County.

Sergeant Austin Daniels, 41, of Tampa, was driving the unmarked 2015 Chevy Tahoe and took evasive action to avoid a collision with Dietrich’s vehicle. She steered to the left and lost control of her car. It overturned  “multiple times” before landing on its roof in the northbound lanes of traffic. She suffered serious injuries and was transported to Brooksville Regional Medical Center. A passenger, 11-year-old Rylie Cabe of Clearwater, suffered minor injuries and was also transported to Brooksville Regional Medical Center.

Daniels and a passenger, 30-year-old Trooper Jeff Robinson of Tampa, escaped injury.
