Man with booze in Polar Pop cup nabbed on DUI charge at Wal-Mart in The Villages

Brian Pape

A man with liquor in a Polar Pop cup was arrested on a drunk driving charge at Wal-Mart at Buffalo Ridge Plaza in The Villages.

A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy had been patrolling the store’s parking lot Wednesday night when she spotted 57-year-old Brian Pape of Summerfield who was leaning over in a tan 1999 Ford Ranger pickup truck.

A styrofoam Polar Pop cup full of liquor was found in the vehicle, as well as a bottle of Captain Morgan spiced rum and two bottles of Skol vodka, according to an arrest report. A Publix receipt for the bottles of liquor was found in the vehicle.

Pape failed field sobriety exercises and refused to provide a breath sample. A criminal history check revealed Pape had been convicted of driving under the influence in 2017 in Marion County.

Pape was arrested on a DUI charge and cited for having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $5,000 bond.
