89-year-old Villager hospitalized after losing control of golf cart at tunnel

An 89-year-old Villager was injured after losing control of his golf cart at a tunnel.

Patrick Joseph Scanlan, of the Village of LaBelle North, was driving a 2010 Yamaha golf cart at 1:27 p.m. Tuesday when his foot got stuck on the gas pedal and he lost control of the vehicle while trying to dislodge his foot, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

An 89-year-old Villager was injured after his golf cart crashed at a tunnel near Palmer Legends Country Club.

His golf cart collided with the wall of the tunnel under Buena Vista Boulevard connecting the Village of Bridgeport at Lake Miona to the multi-modal path which runs in front of Palmer Legends Country Club. The golf cart was knocked onto its right side as a result of the collision.

Scanlan was transported by ambulance to Ocala Regional Medical Center.
