Villages Winn-Dixie customers could win free groceries amid COVID-19 crisis

The parent company of a chain of grocery stores in The Villages is giving deserving customers the chance to take home free groceries.

Southeastern Grocers Inc., which owns Winn-Dixie, is asking customers to nominate those they feel are deserving of the gift during the COVID-19 pandemic. Winn-Dixie will give away 10 million rewards points, which totals $100,000 worth of items, to customers and their deserving nominees.

Nominations will be accepted through Tuesday, May 12 via the Winn-Dixie mobile app, which is available in the Apple App store and in Google Play. When submitting a nomination, customers are encouraged to share why they believe the person is deserving of the free groceries. Each Wednesday, 250 pairs of customers will be selected and both the nominee and the nominator will receive 5,000 Winn-Dixie reward points, which is equivalent to $50 in free groceries.

Winn-Dixie recently surprised healthcare professionals and first responders with free groceries. The stores have made special shopping times available for those on the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis, as well as seniors, who are among the most susceptible to the potentially deadly virus.

Winn-Dixie stores in The Villages are located in the La Plaza Grande shopping center near Spanish Springs Town Square, Lake Sumter Landing and the Pinellas Plaza.
