A Summerfield man was jailed Thursday after being accused of stealing items from Wal-Mart.
Marion County sheriff’s deputies respond to the store, located at 17961 S U.S. Hwy. 27/441, and after being given a description, they spotted 41-year-old Jesus Manuel Torres-Flores in the parking lot in a red Volkswagen Passat. A loss prevention officer told deputies that Torres-Flores was seen taking a box of Blade car fuses valued at $14.97 and a blue LED strip light kit valued at $29.59, a sheriff’s office report states.
The driver of the Volkswagen gave deputies permission to search the vehicle and they located the stolen merchandise near where Torres-Flores had been sitting. A loss prevention employee identified him as the same person who committed the theft. Torres-Flores was then advised of his rights and refused to speak with deputies, the report says.
A computer check showed that Torres-Flores has four prior theft convictions, including one in May 2018 and another in April 2017. He was transported to the Marion County Jail, charged with petit theft and held on $10,000 bond. He is due in court June 16 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charge.
