The Villages chapter of Dollars for Scholars chose the boardwalk at Lake Sumter Landing as the site of the presentation of $51,000 in scholarships awarded to local students from The Villages High School and Wildwood Middle High School.
The Dollars for Scholars Scholarship recipients for 2020 are:
Wildwood High School
The Villages High School
Timothy Wallace Harding
Joyce Gilette and Robin Smith, president and vice president of Dollars for Scholars, recognized and presented each of the scholarship award winners with a certificate recognizing their accomplishments. Actual scholarship award funds are directed to the schools selected by the students and will be applied upon attendance. Since its inception in 2007, Dollars for Scholars has provided more than $551,000 in scholarship assistance to 186 graduating students.
“This would not have been possible without the support and generosity of America’s Friendliest Hometown residents. They have attended and donated time and money to a wide variety of Dollars for Scholars fundraising programs presented throughout the years. Thank you for helping us, help you, help kids,” said Villager J.R. “Jim” Zurak, one of the leading members of the group.
