Another inmate at the state prison in Bushell has tested positive for the Coronavirus.
That brings the total number of COVID-19 cases at the Sumter Correctional Institution to 121 – 105 inmates and 16 staff members. Two inmates are in medical isolation, two are in security quarantine and 41 are in medical quarantine, according to a daily report released by the Florida Department of Corrections.
As of Thursday, the tri-county area was reporting 774 COVID-19 cases, an increase of just two in a 24-hour period. Those are comprised of 414 men, 340 women and 20 non-residents. There have been 37 deaths and 151 people have been hospitalized.
Sumter County is holding steady at 253 cases among 180 men, 72 women and one non-resident. There have been 17 deaths and 44 people have required some form of hospital care.
Lake County increased by one case from Wednesday to Thursday to 280 among 130 men, 136 women and 14 non-residents. There have been 15 deaths and 75 people have been hospitalized.
Marion County also increased by one case in a 24-hour period to 241. Those are comprised of 104 men, 132 women and five non-residents. There have been five deaths and 32 people have been seen in area hospitals.
All told, Florida is reporting 53,285 cases – an increase of 651 in 24 hours. Of the total cases, 51,918 are residents. There have been 2,364 deaths and 9,795 people have been treated for the virus in hospitals across the Sunshine State.
