Two more Villagers who live in Sumter County have tested positive for the Coronavirus.
That brings the total number of residents who have tested positive in the county that contains the vast majority of Villages homes to 64. Nine others have been identified with the potentially deadly virus in the Lake County portion of the community and at least one has tested positive for COVID-19 in the Marion County section of the sprawling retirement mecca.
As of Tuesday, the tri-county area was reporting 816 COVID-19 cases, an increase of nine in a 24-hour period. Those are comprised of 430 males, 365 females and 21 non-residents. They range in age from 1 to 98, with an average age of 52. There have been 39 deaths and 158 people have required some form of hospital care.
The latest report from the Florida Department of Health marked the first time since May 22 that Sumter County has reported a new case of the Coronavirus. Those new positive results bring the total in the county to 255 among 182 males, 72 females and one non-resident. They range in age from 17 to 92, with the average age being 65. There have been 17 deaths and 44 people have been hospitalized.
Of the Sumter County cases, 121 are in Bushnell, with all of those apparently being at the Sumter Correctional Institution (105 inmates and 16 staff members). Other cases have been identified in Lake Panasoffkee (22), Oxford (16), Wildwood (9), Webster (8), Lady Lake portion of the county (6), Sumterville (5) and Coleman (3). The federal prison in Coleman also has identified seven cases among three inmates and four staff members.
Lake County reported 306 cases on Tuesday – an increase of just two in a 24-hour period – among 138 males, 154 females and 14 non-residents. They range in age from 1-98, with an average age of 52. There have been 15 deaths and 78 people have been seen in area hospitals.
Seventeen of the Lake County cases are in Lady Lake, with another five being reported in Fruitland Park. Others have been identified in Clermont (97), Leesburg (47), Eustis (27), Tavares (20), Groveland (17), Mount Dora (17), Mascotte (12), Minneola (6), Sorrento (4), Montverde (4), Howey-in-the-Hills (3), Altoona (2), Okahumpka (1), Umatilla (1), Grand Island (1), Paisley (1) and Yalaha (1).
Marion County is now reporting 255 cases, an increase of five in a 24-hour period. Those were identified by the Department of Health in Marion County as:
- A 5-year-old boy from Ocala;
- An 11-year-old boy from Ocala;
- A 36-year-old woman from Ocala;
- A 37-year-old man from Ocala; and
- A 74-year-old woman from Ocala.
The total number of Marion County cases are comprised of 110 males, 139 females and six non-resident. They range in age from 6 months to 97, with an average age of 48. There have been seven deaths and 36 people have required hospitalization.
The overwhelming majority of Marion County cases – 182 – have been reported in Ocala, with another 27 in Summerfield. Others have been reported in Dunnellon (11), Citra (10), Belleview (8), Ocklawaha (4), Anthony (3), Reddick (2) and Silver Springs (1).
All told, Florida is reporting 57,447 COVID-19 cases – an increase of 617 in a 24-hour period. Of those, 56,001 are residents. There have been 2,530 deaths and 10,412 people have been hospitalized across the Sunshine State.
