Three more cases of the Coronavirus have been reported in the Sumter County portion of The Villages, including a healthcare worker at a local assisted living facility.
An employee of Sumter Place in The Villages, located at 1550 Killingsworth Way, was identified Wednesday as testing positive for COVID-19. Providers from Premier Medical Associates in The Villages conducted testing at the facility in late April but it’s unclear exactly when the employee tested positive for the potentially deadly virus.
The Villages portion of Sumter County is now reporting 67 cases, with another nine in the Lake County portion of the community and at least one in the Marion County section of the mega-retirement mecca, according to a Florida Department of Health report.
Another 29 cases have been identified in Summerfield just outside the boundaries of Florida’s Friendliest Hometown. The newest patients there have been identified as two women, ages 30 and 76. It remains unclear if any of the Summerfield patients live in the retirement communities of Del Webb Spruce Creek, Stonecrest or Spruce Creek South, as those specific numbers aren’t provided by the Florida Department of Health.
Also just outside the boundaries of The Villages, 17 cases have been reported in Lady Lake, 16 in Oxford, nine in Wildwood and six in Fruitland Park, which added a new patient on Wednesday.
All told, the tri-county area is reporting 824 COVID-19 cases, an increase of eight in a 24-hour period. Those are divided among 432 men, 371 women and one 21 non-residents. There have been 39 deaths and 158 people have been hospitalized.
Sumter County reported 258 cases, an increase of the three Villages-related cases in 24-hours. Those are comprised of 183 men, 74 women and one non-resident. There have been 17 deaths and 44 people have required some form of hospital care.
Of the Sumter County cases, 121 are in Bushnell, with all of those apparently being at the Sumter Correctional Institution (105 inmates and 16 staff members). Other cases have been identified in Lake Panasoffkee (22), Webster (8), Lady Lake portion of the county (6), Sumterville (5) and Coleman (3). The federal prison in Coleman also has identified six cases among two inmates and four staff members.
Lake County is reporting 309 cases – an increase of three from Tuesday to Wednesday – among 139 men, 156 women and 14 non-residents. There have been 15 deaths and 78 people have been seen at area hospitals.
The largest concentration of Lake County cases – 98 – have been reported in Clermont. Other Lake County cities reporting positive results include Leesburg (47), Eustis (27), Tavares (20), Groveland (17), Mount Dora (17), Mascotte (13), Minneola (6), Sorrento (4), Montverde (4), Howey-in-the-Hills (3), Altoona (2), Okahumpka (1), Umatilla (1), Grand Island (1), Paisley (1) and Yalaha (1).
Marion County now has 257 cases, with both of the new patients being the Summerfield women. Those total positive results are divided among 110 men, 141 women and six non-residents. There have been seven deaths and 36 people have required hospitalization.
Of the Marion County cases, 182 have been reported in Ocala. Others have been identified in Dunnellon (11), Citra (10), Belleview (8), Ocklawaha (4), Anthony (3), Reddick (2) and Silver Springs (1).
All told, Florida is reporting 58,764 COVID-19 cases – an increase of 1,317 in a 24-hour period. Of those, 57,293 are residents. There have been 2,566 deaths and 10,525 people have been hospitalized across the Sunshine State.
