Community Development District 9 supervisors suggested Thursday that the Recreation News could be reduced from weekly to monthly distribution as a cost-saving measure.
“Every week it comes and every week it goes into the recycling bin. It’s overkill to do it every week,” CDD 9 Supervisor Don “Smoke” Hickman said.
His remarks came on the heels of Community Development District 2 Supervisor Bryan Lifsey assailing the Project Wide Advisory Committee on Monday morning on the “Gutenberg” mentality that he says keeps the information in the Recreation News shackled to pulp and press. Like many other elected officials in The Villages, Lifsey has suggested it’s time to catapult Recreation News into the modern digital age.
CDD 9 Chairman Jack Reimer agreed.
“Maybe we should consider whether it should show up every week in everyone’s newspaper,” he said.
Hickman, like Lifsey, sounded impatient with the fact that PWAC and the Amenity Authority Committee have been lethargic about taking any action with regard to Recreation News.
“They’ve been studying it for years,” Hickman said.
