Wal-Mart shoplifting suspect offers to pay for merchandise on way to jail

Brett Alexander Parsells

A shoplifting suspect at Wal-Mart at Buffalo Ridge Plaza in The Villages offered to pay for merchandise when he was on his way to jail.

Brett Alexander Parsells, 19, of Ocala, went to the self-checkout on Sunday afternoon and scanned some merchandise, but not a 14-piece cookware set and universal mount bundle, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. A loss prevention officer stopped Parsells outside the store and asked him to step back inside.

“You can have it all!” Parsells told the loss prevention officer.

Parsells fled the store, but was located by a deputy near the Metro Diner, a short distance away. He was found thanks to a description of the vehicle in which he had been traveling. He was handcuffed and taken into custody. During the trip to the jail, Parsells kept repeating the same question.

“If I paid for the items would Wal-Mart drop the charges?” he asked.

Parsells was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on a charge of theft. Bond was set at $2,000.
