To the Editor:

Confession time! Charlie and I were invited by another couple to meet them at a restaurant last evening. The “best” one in The Villages. We went, but wished we had not. Masks and social distancing were not observed by the vast majority of patrons. The staff wore masks, most not covering their noses and definitely did not practice or attempt distancing. None of the staff wore gloves – bare hands serving bread, appetizers, entres and dessert. Saw waitstaff patting regulars on the back and shoulders. The paper menus should have been thrown out after each use, but were callously recycled to the next victim, I mean customer. We should have left when we arrived, because people were tightly clustered in front of the entrance. People had to run the gauntlet to get into or leave the premises. The food was excellent, pricey, but not worth our health. Very disappointed in the restaurant and their utter lack of interest in protecting their customers and waitstaff. We stripped off our garments upon returning home, washed thoroughly, but feel we made a huge mistake. Hopefully it will not result in illness.
There are a lot of fools in The Villages. Unfortunately Wednesday evening we were the fools.
