Fiesta Bowl in The Villages is preparing to resume its popular monthly Senior Shootout tournaments.
The United States Bowling Congress events will resume Saturday, June 20 at 11 a.m. They are open to all bowlers age 55 and older, with special consideration given to those age 70 and older. The tournaments will include optional brackets, side pots and a King of the Hill pot.
Fiesta Bowl will use all of its lanes for the events and attempt to put a minimum number of bowlers on each pair. The goal is to keep all bowlers safe and anyone who isn’t feeling well is encouraged to wait until the following month to participate in a tournament.
Albert Stiriz is the reigning Senior Shootout champion after winning the February event. He has a paid entry into Saturday’s tournament and is automatically eligible for the season championship in August 2020. Last season’s champion, Rory Peterson, also is eligible to compete in the August championship.
Fiesta Bowl also has relaxed the qualifying requirements to at least five events bowled or a monthly event win. Any questions about entry amounts can be answered at check-in.
Fiesta Bowl also is holding a competition for Bowler of the Year. The current leaders are Roger Tramp (S), 180 points; Keith Sharp, 135 points; John Pullen (S) and Roger Bowker, 120 points; and J. Peterson, Rick Pittman and Dennis Rakauskas, 110 points.
The next regular event is scheduled for July 18, followed by the annual Non-Winners event on July 25. The season championship will be held Aug. 15.
