Residents in a villa community in The Villages are calling for an upgrade to flowers at the entrance.

The residents of the Phillips Villa made their plea last week before the Community Development District 4 Board of Supervisors.

The Phillips Villas and the Soulliere Villas were added to CDD 4 about three years ago after the Developer announced in 2015 the intention to construct the 300 courtyard villas in the Marion County section of The Villages.

There are drought-resistant plants at the entrance to the Phillips Villa.

The Developer put in drought resistant plants at the entrances to the villas, both located off County Road 42 at opposite ends of Mulberry Grove Plaza.

A resident approached the CDD 4 Board with white presentation poster board, mounted with photos of some flower-rich landscaping displays at entrances elsewhere in The Villages, including the Village of Rio Grande and the Village of Harmeswood of Belle Aire. She was joined at the meeting by several of her neighbors. They indicated they wanted a similar display at the entrance to the Phillips Villas.

However, the residents were told that the types of annuals planted at the major thoroughfares and entrances in The Villages, have not been budgeted for the Phillips Villas. If the supervisors would have agreed to install the irrigation equipment and then change out the flowers four times per year, the cost would be borne by all residents of CDD 4, not just the residents of the Phillips Villas.

There was little sympathy for their plea.

“You knew what you had when you moved in. You got what you bought,” said Supervisor Cary Sternberg.
