A Summerfield man found himself behind bars Thursday – five days after a woman reported that he had been “drunk and aggressive” and refused to return her cell phone.
Marion County sheriff’s deputies responded to a Summerfield residence this past Sunday and spoke with the woman, who said she was “very scared.” She said that 32-year-old John W. Archibald had taken her cell phone from its charger and called her a “whore” when she asked him several times to return it. She claimed he then grabbed her face and shoved her backwards, a sheriff’s office report states.
The woman said she told Archibald she was going to call law enforcement for help if he didn’t return her cell phone. She said he told her to go ahead and call, then walked out the door and threw a glass beer bottle at her. She said she shut the door quickly to block the bottle from hitting her and it smacked the front door and broke. She said then went across the street to a neighbor’s house to call for help, the report says.
Deputies noted there was glass and liquid on the floor by the front door, as well as the smell of beer. They also reported seeing a golf-ball-size hole in the door where the bottle hit it.
Deputies made contact Thursday with Archibald at his residence. After being read his rights, he said he never “put his hands” on the woman. He also claimed he didn’t try to throw the bottle at her but did admit to hitting the door with it, the report says.
Archibald was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with domestic aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and domestic battery. He was being held on no bond and is due in court July 21 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charges.
