A teller at a Citizens First Bank branch derailed a man hoping to cash a stolen $2,496 check.
James Albert Hall Jr., 59, of Huntsville, Ala., shortly before 5 p.m. Friday entered the bank branch at 2420 Burnsed Blvd. at Pinellas Plaza and attempted to cash a check drawn on a bank location in Mount Dora, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.
Knowing that the check might be fraudulent, the teller contacted police and stalled the transaction, the report said.
Hall “admitted the check was fraudulent and he was cashing them after an unknown male offered 10 percent of the money if he did the transaction,” the arresting officer wrote in the report.
Hall was arrested on a felony charge of fraud and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $2,000.
