Johannes G. Koppers, of The Villages, Florida, passed away peacefully on 9/17/2020 at the age of 82. Preceded in death by his son-in-law, Robert R. Lenz, John is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 62 years, Lija; daughter Perry Lenz; granddaughters Ashley (Brendan) Keiser and Elizabeth Lenz (Steve Lollier); great-grandsons Hayden and Dawson Keiser. He is also survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law in the Netherlands, Adriana Fluit-Westphal; Ton (Liesbeth) vanderVen; Robert (Paula) vanderVen; Ruud vanderVan; Stan (Marina) vanderVen; and nieces and nephews in Rochester, NY and the Netherlands.
Born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, John wanted to immigrate to the United States from a young age. He realized his dream in 1962, bringing his young family here, only to return (to the Netherlands) two years later. Pulled by all the possibilities that the USA held, they returned to Rochester, NY in 1969, and John proudly attained his citizenship in 1994.
John had a great sense of humor, and was frequently found entertaining the room. He was an artist at heart, and utilized his talents painting billboards, including Black Velvet models and the Marlboro men. He later became self-employed and started Holland Painting. After retiring and moving to The Villages in 1999, he continued to share his talents by painting several beautiful murals for neighbors. He also worked as a projectionist in The Rialto, which fed his love of movies.
John loved dancing with Lija, traveling, cruises and spending time with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, hug and hold your family tight and raise a glass to John.
