
Richard Gnaedinger, Ph.D. passed away on January 25, 2021. He was born on September 15, 1930 in rural Pocahontas, Illinois.
He was inducted into the service in 1951, trained in light infantry basics at Camp Breckinridge, KY and served in the Army’s First Division for 2 years in Erlangen, Germany during the Korean War.
After Military service Richard attended Southern Illinois University under the GI Bill and later attended Graduate School at Michigan State, majoring in Food Science with minors in biochemistry and physiology. He worked for the Bureau of Commercial Fisheries in Ann Arbor, Michigan doing research on utilization of fresh water fish for food and feed. He has one patent on steam cooking of fish for animal food. In 1973 Richard took a job with the Missouri Health Department where he served 20 years as the Chief Chemist for the Missouri Department of Health.
In 1977 Richard married Lorene Robl of Colorado Springs. They spend 39 years together and traveled extensively.
In June of 1993, he retired and moved to The Villages in Florida where both he and Lorene were involved in volunteer work in the community and at Saint Timothy Catholic Church.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife Lorene.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Beyers Funeral Home, 134 N. Hwy 27/441, Lady Lake, FL 32159. The Funeral service will be on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 8:30 a.m. at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 1351 Paige Place, Lady Lake, FL 32159. Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL at 10:30 a.m.
