Joan Ann Danis

Joan Danis

Joan Ann Danis went home to be with our Lord on March 24, 2021. She passed peacefully in her home in the Villages, Florida surrounded by her five children and her husband of 63 years, Albert Danis.

Joan was born on 15 August 1938 in Winooski, VT. She was the second of six children of Armond and Fernand Mercure. After graduating from high school, Joan met the love of her life, Al Danis, from Burlington, VT. When they finished raising their six children in Vermont, the couple moved to Florida in 2000. Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and daughter. She was a model of faith to all who knew her. She was particularly devoted to the Blessed Mother and prayed the rosary constantly. Tributes from friends, nieces, nephews, and even distant relatives have poured in since the announcement of her passing, and the most consistent theme running through these remembrances recalls Joan’s kindness to everyone who knew her.

She will be missed by those who survive her, including her husband Al, her sisters Marlene Sabourin of Winooski VT, and Wanda Roza, of Ocala Fl., and brother Alan Mercure of Gainesville Fl., along with her five children and their spouses: Cheryl and Tim Mitchell of the Villages, Fl., Mark and Becky Danis of Beavercreek, OH, Jay and Heidi Danis of Plattsburgh, NY, Holly and Tim Ward of Monroe, Pa., and Brett and Jessica Danis of Essex Jct., VT, as well as twenty-one grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters Sandy Bruce and Carol Rochefort.

Joan and Al traveled the world together, including Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Latin America, but her greatest joy was to be at home with her family.

A private Catholic prayer service will be held at the Lady Lake Chapel of Beyers Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at 11am. There will be a funeral Mass and internment at Holy Family Parish in Essex Jct. VT this July.
