Last week, President Biden officially ended the “Remain in Mexico” policy that the Trump Administration successfully negotiated to ensure our southwest border is not overwhelmed.
The president’s pausing of this policy in January contributed to the surge of drug trafficking, illegal immigration and thousands of unaccompanied children crossing our border for the last 4+ months. His border policies incentivize dangerous and deadly human smuggling operations.
In April, the Border Patrol encountered more than 33,000 people crossing into the U.S. from nations other than Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, according to Department of Homeland Security data. That’s up from about 9,000 in January and an increase of 35 percent from March — even as numbers from the Northern Triangle fell slightly during that time period. It’s also 2.5 times the number who crossed in June 2019, which was the highest month of the previous three fiscal years.
Despite the ongoing crisis, Vice President Harris has yet to travel to see the crisis first hand! Last week, news came out that her team is actually trying to distance her from the issue.
While Speaker Pelosi and most House Democrats also ignore the issue and prevent the House from taking action, Florida is not standing idly by. Our State Attorney General, Ashley Moody has taken action to push back on Biden administration, recently filing an appeal with the 11th Circuit and I commend and support this action.
