A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy has arrested a man who had appeared on the 10 Most Wanted list.

The deputy at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday observed a white Nissan with heavily tinted windows traveling east on County Road 470. The deputy previously received information that 26-year-old Felipe De Jesus Madrigal of Webster may be in the Nissan. Madrigal was wanted on numerous felony warrants.

The deputy initiated the traffic stop in Lake Panasoffkee. Upon activating his lights, it appeared the male passenger was leaning over the driver. The vehicle began to brake, slow, travel toward the roadside, and jerk back onto the roadway. The vehicle eventually came to a stop.

The deputy approached the vehicle and observed Madrigal aggressively shoving the driver toward the driver’s door. Madrigal had his foot down in the area of the vehicles’ gas pedal. The deputy determined the Madrigal was using physical force to make the female exit the vehicle so he could get into the driver’s seat in an apparent attempt to carjack the driver to flee law enforcement. The deputy was able to open the driver’s door at which time the driver exited. Deputies then pulled out Madrigal and placed him on the ground where he was detained without further resistance.

Madrigal was taken into custody and booked without bond at the Sumter County Detention Center. In addition to the warrants, he was charged with robbery by carjacking and aggravated battery on a pregnant female.
