A man from Mexico who said he was “scared” because he did not have a driver’s license was arrested after allegedly attempting to flee from police in Lady Lake.
Fabian Medina-Herrera, 22, was driving a black Chevy pickup at 12:45 a.m. Sunday on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 when he was caught on radar traveling at 63 miles per hour in a 40 mph zone, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.
A police officer attempted to execute a traffic stop at U.S. Hwy. 27/441 at Griffin View Drive, but as the officer exited his squad car, Medina-Herrera revved his vehicle’s engine and turned onto Griffin View Drive. The officer followed the pickup truck with the squad car’s emergency lights activated. The pickup truck turned onto Winners Circle at an estimated speed between 32 and 37 mph. Medina-Herrera parked the truck and began to walk away, but was detained by law enforcement.
He presented the officer with a Mexican identification card. He admitted he doesn’t have a driver’s license and was “scared.”
He was arrested on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement and no valid driver’s license. He was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $6,000 bond.
