
Sumter County Republican Party Chairman John Temple has announced that he will run in the new State House of Representatives District 52 seat representing Sumter and part of Hernando County.
The new District includes the 33rd District which is currently represented by state Rep. Brett Hage. Villager Andrew Curtis has announced his is also running as a Republican for the State House seat.
“I am running for the Florida House of Representatives to continue building on the Conservative principles that have made our state great: a strong economy with good paying jobs, a world-class education system that empowers parents and teachers and steadfast support for the Rule of Law and our first responders and military. Florida is leading the nation in protecting and expanding freedom. I want to serve the families of Sumter and Hernando to ensure that our conservative values and our voice is heard in Tallahassee,” Temple said.
Temple is a life-long educator with more than 23 years of experience. He started teaching math at McKeel Academy in Lakeland, before returning home to teach in Sumter County. After completing seven years in the classroom, he moved into school administration. He served as an assistant principal, principal, and currently is director of professional learning and accountability for Sumter County Schools.
Since 2018, Temple has served as the chairman of Sumter County Republican Party. He has assisted and coordinated two visits from President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and many visits by state officials.
John and Jessica, his wife, just celebrated their 22nd anniversary. They have two kids who attend Sumter County Schools. Jenna, who is a senior in high school and Julia, who is in eighth grade. He and his family are members of Heritage Community Church, where he has volunteered in the children’s program and supports an annual men’s retreat as a small group facilitator.
