Walmart, ALDI closed, most Publix open in The Villages as grocers brace for Idalia

Walmarts and ALDI locations in and around The Villages will remain closed on Wednesday, while most Publix will keep normal hours as grocers grapple with Hurricane Idalia.

Two Walmart locations in The Villages and one in Summerfield announced that they would close their doors late Tuesday and would remain closed through Wednesday.

“Due to Idalia, Walmart will be closing today at 5:00 pm, the Pharmacy and the Vision Center close today at 4:00 pm. We will all be reopen Thursday at our normal business hours,” reads a statement from Walmart Supercenter at Buffalo Ridge Plaza.

In addition to the location in Buffalo Ridge Plaza, the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Heald Way and the Walmart Supercenter in Summerfield are also closed through Wednesday.

All three stores are scheduled to reopen at 6 a.m. on Thursday, August 31.

Similarly, all three local ALDI locations that service The Villages will close through Wednesday. Those three stores are located at 13937 Hwy 441 in Lady Lake, 3915 E CR 466 in Oxford, and 5643 Seven Mile Drive in Wildwood.

The Wildwood and Lady Lake locations will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, while the Aldi in Oxford will reopen at 9 a.m. on Thursday.

Conversely, Publix will keep all of its stores in The Villages open, with the exception its location at Mulberry Grove Plaza Shopping Center. That location is situated within the Marion County portion of The Villages and will have modified hours, opening at 12 p.m.

Both Winn Dixie locations in The Villages will remain open for normal hours on Wednesday.
