Angelo W. Castellon, 93, of The Villages, Fla., passed away Monday at The Lighthouse Inn Nursing Center, Fruitland Park, Fla.

Born in New York City, N.Y., on Aug. 29, 1930, he was the son of the late Angelo and Candalaria Roja Castellon and spent the past six years in The Villages, Fla. after moving from Drums in 2017.

Angelo was a mechanical engineer for Raytheon Service Company in Burlington, Mass., and worked on many missile designs including the Patriot, Sidewinder and SeaHawk. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1953. He was a member of the 1844 C BTRY 623rd FA BN and received the United Nations Service Medal and Korean Service Medal with three Bronze stars. He was a member of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Parish at St. Anne Roman Catholic Church, Freeland, before moving to Florida, and was a member of St. Timothy R.C. Church, The Villages, Fla. He served on the honor guard of the Valley Vets Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8161, Conyngham, and was a past president of the Freeland Rotary. He also enjoyed reading, antiquing with his wife and weekly trips to the library.

He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his wife, Joan Roman Castellon; and a sister, Evelyn Niesner.

Surviving are his daughter, Linda Hodge and her husband, Scott, The Villages, Fla.; a cousin, Joseph Mates, St. Charles, Mo.; granddaughter of the heart, Catelyn Tassone and husband, Nicholas, Upton, Mass.; niece, Bonnie Wood, Clinton, N.Y.; nephew, Richard Wood and wife, Pam, Cherry Log, Ga.; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

His funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at Harman Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. (East), 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Parish at St. Anne R.C. Church, 898 Centre St., Freeland. Burial will follow in Conyngham Union Cemetery, Conyngham. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America or the Gary Sinise Foundation.
