A drunk driving suspect refused to provide a breath sample after crashing into a fence on County Road 25 in Marion County.
Dana Giles, 64, of Belleview, had been driving a 2003 Hyundai Sonata in the early morning hours Monday when she crashed into the fence and was found by a passerby, according to an arrest report from the Florida Highway Patrol. When a trooper arrived at the scene, he found that Giles was showing signs of impairment.
The trooper also learned that Giles had been convicted of driving under the influence in 1998 in Texas and in 2002 in Collier County, Florida. She had refused to provide a breath sample in the Collier County DUI.
She refused to provide a breath sample after the crash and would not cooperate with law enforcement. At one point, Giles slapped a trooper’s hand.
When she was taken to a medical facility, she kicked a trooper and shouted “discriminatory and hostile” language at law enforcement and hospital personnel. Her language included “racial slurs and profane statements.”
She was arrested on multiple charges including DUI, resisting arrest and battery on a law enforcement officer. She was booked at the Lake County Jail.
