A Lake Panasoffkee man was arrested after being caught behind the wheel with a license that expired over six months ago.
A deputy observed a blue vehicle traveling eastbound on County Road 470, Lake Panasoffkee, around 8:15 p.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

A check of the tag revealed that the registered owner, 30-year-old Misael Vazquez-Avendano, had an invalid license that expired on Dec. 5, 2020. A man resembling the owner sat in the driver’s seat, prompting the deputy to conduct an investigative traffic stop at the intersection of north County Roads 470 and 489, the report said.
Upon approaching the driver, the deputy confirmed that he was the registered owner. When the deputy asked for his driver’s license, Vazquez-Avendano said he did not have one. A review of his criminal history revealed a guilty conviction from Eustis on May 4, 2023, the report said.
Vazquez-Avendano was arrested on charged of driving with driver’s license expired more than six months. The native of Mexico was transported to Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $150 bond.
