Spanish Springs Town Square is on tap for a $1.2 million upgrade.
The Village Center Community Development District Board of Supervisors is set to approve a bid of $1.2 million from G & G Construction of Marion County Inc. for the first phase of improvements at The Villages’ original town square.

The project includes demolition, minor site work, curbing replacement at select intersections and utility modifications. The improvements consist of pedestrian concrete paving, pedestrian decorative paving, new raised seating areas and planters, tile work, precast concrete work, handrails, landscape/irrigation improvements, as well as electrical and lighting improvements. The work will take place near the Van Patten House and The Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center.

The bid came in higher than anticipated, as the work had been budgeted at $975,000. To make up the roughly $259,000 shortfall, the necessary funds will be transferred from working capital and reserves.
The VCCDD board will meet at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the District Office at Brownwood.
