An unlicensed driver from Mexico was arrested after a crash in The Villages.

An officer responded to an accident involving two vehicles at the intersection of Marsh Bend Trail and Central Parkway near the Village of Shady Brook around 7:25 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

The officer spoke with one of the drivers who was later identified as 36-year-old Luis Enrique Montes-Zuniga by his Mexican voter identification. He advised that he was the driver of a 2013 Ford F-150. The officer asked if he had a driver’s license or ID card, to which he stated “no,” the report said.

Montes-Zuniga then provided his name and date of birth as his identity. The report noted that he later gave another officer his Mexican voter ID card. A check using this information confirmed he was not issued a Florida license and was not a U.S. citizen, the report said.

Montes-Zuniga was subsequently arrested on charge of operate motor vehicle without valid license. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center where a hold was put on his custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
