An Ocklawaha woman was arrested for battery after choking herself with a ratchet strap but blaming her boyfriend who was kicking her out.

A deputy responded to an undisclosed Marion County residence around 10:35 a.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. A woman was heard screaming in the background of an open line 911 call before it was disconnected.

Upon arrival, the deputy met with 31-year-old Alyssa Provancher at the front door of the residence. It looked like she had been crying. He asked her to come into the yard to talk, and she agreed, the report said.

Provancher advised of a verbal altercation with her live-in boyfriend of two years, the victim, and stated he was throwing her personal belongings out of the home. She claimed he had been in a bad mood for three days for an unknown reason and became upset when she refused to leave him alone as he requested, the report said.

Provancher stated the victim did not hit or touch her. She was asked where he was, and she stated he was inside. She quickly followed this by saying he did not want to speak with law enforcement, the report said.

Provancher had what appeared to be a scratch mark on her neck that she stated was not an injury. She eventually admitted her neck was scratched when she was trying to get her stuff from the victim because he was throwing it outside. She would not explain further, so the deputy went to speak with the victim, the report said.

The victim advised that Provancher had been awake for several days, believing she relapsed on methamphetamine. He began looking through her things for narcotics and found methamphetamine inside a plastic bag on her bedside table. He flushed it down the toilet, and she became angry when she caught him, the report said.

Provancher yelled at the victim and asked him what he did. He went into the bedroom, and she threw a feather pillow at him. It hit him, and he threw it back at her. This damaged the seam and scattered a few feathers around the room, the report said.

The victim was angry at Provancher for bringing the drugs into his home, so he started tossing her property out the front door while telling her to leave. She grabbed a nearby ratchet strap and wrapped it around her neck like a noose. She pulled and twisted the strap, using her arms to pull it tight and choke herself, the report said.

The victim told Provancher she was going to kill herself. He felt she was seeking attention and ignored her, instead continuing to throw her items out the door. She then stopped choking herself to jump on his back, the report said.

Provancher wrapped her legs around the victim’s waist and her arms around his neck as she tried to smack her stuff from his hands. He pulled her off and discarded her onto the ground. He then went into a spare bedroom, and she followed him, throwing herself onto the bed and raising her legs up like she was going to kick him, the report said.

The victim again ignored Provancher, and she rolled onto the floor. She yelled, “Look what you made me do?” She also advised that she was calling law enforcement, the report said.

The victim had two pink marks on the back of his neck consistent with his account of the incident. He had no injuries, and his hands were not discolored, the report said.

After the deputy spoke with the victim, Provancher took back her initial statement. She told another deputy that the victim was mad at her for going into their room to collect her bag. He beat her over the head with a feather pillow until it was out of stuffing, the report said.

Provancher did not resist the victim in any way and went to sit on the living room chair. He followed her and flipped it over while she was still sitting. She claimed she was choked at one point, then said it was two or three times, and finally only one time, the report said.

The victim was throwing her things out of the residence, and she was trying to gather her things near him. He grabbed Provancher from behind, but she did not fight as he put a noose made from a ratchet strap over her head. He allegedly raised her up off the ground with one hand where her feet no longer reached until she was about to pass out from being strangled, the report said.

Provancher believed this went on for about a minute. She was somehow released from the noose and sprayed in the face with Scrubbing Bubbles bleach cleaner. She stated the victim rubbed the cleaner in her eyes, the report said.

Provancher went to get her belongings outside of the home and was locked out. She banged on the doors to get back in but did not ask anyone for help, though there were people outside. She believed the victim tried to kill her, the report said.

Provancher’s story remained inconsistent. When it was pointed out she did not smell like bleach, her eyes were not red as if harmed by chemicals, the pillow was not empty of feathers and the injury to her neck was not consistent with being lifted off the ground from behind, she stated she did not remember what happened, the report said.

The deputy next spoke with the victim’s father who lived in a neighboring home and was outside during the incident. He heard yelling and Provancher banging on the outside of the residence trying to get back in. He offered her some help and asked if she would come to his home to de-escalate the situation, but she refused. He was unaware of a battery happening, the report said.

Provancher was subsequently arrested for battery. The Maine native was transported to Marion County Jail to be held without bond.
