A Wildwood construction company has been hired to build a roundabout at county roads 466 and 475 west of Oxford near the Florida Turnpike.

The bid of $3.6 million by C.W. Roberts Contracting was the lowest among four bidders.

Sumter County commissioners approved a contract with the company at their Tuesday meeting.

County Administrator Bradley Arnold said federal funds will finance the project.

The two county roads provide an alternate route to the turnpike between Oxford and Ocala, passing horse farms and the tiny community of Pedro.

The highest bid was $5.1 million when bids were opened March 7.

Under the contract, C.W. Roberts Contracting will have 280 days from the start of construction to complete the project.

Recent contracts for the 47-year-old company include a $15.3-million resurfacing and widening project on State Road 19 in Lake County and a $10.9-million widening and drainage improvement project on State Road 200 in Marion County.
