A Summerfield man was arrested for driving with a suspended license despite claiming he was not notified due to moving earlier this year.

A deputy observed the driver of a silver Mitsubishi sedan, later identified as 45-year-old Joshua Daniel Norton, traveling west on Southeast Hames Road in Belleview around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. A check of the tag revealed Norton’s license was suspended.

The deputy subsequently conducted a traffic stop in the Circle K parking lot at the intersection of Southeast Hames Road and Southeast Abshier Boulevard. He made contact with Norton, who was also the registered owner, the report said.

A check of Norton’s driving history confirmed that his driver’s license was suspended as of Jan. 29, 2024, for DUI involving property damage/personal injury in Orange County. He was notified of this as of Aug. 8, 2024. Norton advised that he did not know his driver’s license was suspended due to moving recently, which he explained was in January of this year, the report said.

Norton was arrested on charge of driving while license suspended with knowledge. The Oklahoma native was transported to Marion County Jail and released after posting $10,000 bond.
