A Summerfield man was arrested for driving while his license was revoked on a substance charge to go get a drink.

A deputy observed the driver of a blue Chevy Trailblazer, later identified as 37-year-old Jason Warren Hunter, fail to stop at a stop sign on Southeast 37th Terrace on Monday, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy got behind the vehicle and saw the driver was Hunter, who had a revoked driver’s license. As a result, he initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle continued despite the deputy turning on his siren, and it made a southbound turn on Southeast 41st Court, the report said.

The vehicle then made an eastbound turn back onto Southeast 138th Lane before coming to rest in the driveway of 4295 SE 138th Lane, which was his known residence. Hunter got out of the vehicle and approached the deputy. Due to the circumstances, he was handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle, the report said.

As the deputy handcuffed Hunter, he asked where his license was. Hunter advised that he did not have one. He was read his rights and admitted that he knew he did not have a license but went to the store to get a drink, the report said.

A check of Hunter’s driving history showed his license was revoked on April 19, 2014, for a controlled substance charge. He also received notice by court order that he was not to drive. He was also arrested on Aug. 20, 2015, by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office for driving while license suspended/revoked and was convicted on Oct. 1, 2015, the report said.

Hunter was arrested on charge of driving while license suspended/revoked (second or subsequent offense). He was transported to Marion County Jail with bond set at $2,000.
