Damon Lee Cargile, 30, of Lady Lake, aroused suspicion Friday night when he was spotted wearing a pair of brand new tan boots which still had a price tag on them, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. A loss prevention officer found that Cargile had placed his footwear in a box when he put on the boots. Cargile had also placed several black undershirts in his backpack and attempted to leave the store without paying for the merchandise.

He claimed he had “zoned out.”

A deputy examined surveillance footage and determined that Cargile “tried to bury his attention into his cell phone as he walked past the sale verification employee at the exit.”

In addition, Cargile was found to be in possession of a substance which tested positive for methamphetamine and fentanyl. He was taken into custody and booked at the Marion County Jail on $5,500 bond.
