A Villager was arrested on drug charges after being caught near the dumpsters behind Belk at La Plaza Grande.

An officer observed a suspicious golf cart behind Belk at La Plaza Grande around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. A woman with a flashlight, later identified as 45-year-old Cynthia Lynn Jones of the Village of Silver Lake, was next to the POD containers and dumpsters, as well.

The officer approached Jones and checked her information while a K-9 unit arrived on scene as routine backup. The officers began speaking with Jones and asked if she had any contraband inside the golf cart. She advised that if there were any drugs in the golf cart, they would be in the compartment to the left of the steering wheel, the report said.

The K-9 officer asked Jones if she would like to open the compartment, to which she did, revealing her wallet. He noticed clear baggies containing residue sticking out from the wallet she claimed to be hers. As a result, he deployed his K-9 partner to sniff around the outside of the golf cart, the report said.

The K-9 then alerted to the odor of narcotics. A search of the golf cart revealed a plastic baggie with residue and half an alprazolam pill inside a metal tin on the seat. There was also another baggie with residue and a baggie with three oblong gabapentin capsules inside Jones’ wallet, the report said.

The keys to the golf cart had a zipper pouch with four more gabapentin pills. The officers also found an eye glass case with two glass pipes and a baggie with residue. Inside a cardboard box was a baggie with 0.5 grams of methamphetamine, the report said.

The officers read Jones her rights, but she decided not to answer questions that could incriminate her. She only stated the gabapentin was not hers but a friend’s, the report said.

Jones was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, alprazolam, gabapentin and drug paraphernalia. She was transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $7,000.
