Joan A. Hendry

Joan Hendry, of The Village of Amelia in Sumter County Florida, passed away quietly in her sleep on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at the age of 85.

Born Joan Ann Christiano, a Jersey Girl, came into this world March 22, 1940 in Orange. She grew up on Chapman St. along with her mother Isabel (Betty), her father Anthony, (Chris) and her younger sister Marilyn. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair where she was runner up for Miss Immaculate. A chance meeting at the local soda jerk shop brought Robert Hendry into her life. The two married April 8, 1961.

First came Robert (Bobby), followed by Kristin, lastly John (Johnny). The young family lived temporarily in West Orange until they settled down in a new home in a young neighborhood in Succasunna. All three children graduated Roxbury High School.

Joan was a fan of dancing, book club, her Mahjong group, embracing a good laugh, and especially looked forward to Friday night cards with Bob, Mag, Gene, Marilyn and Owen. Her favorite vacations were the years spent at LBI for the beach/family reunion extravaganzas.

She worked numerous jobs: x-ray tech, orthodontic reception, executive secretary for AT&T, before finding a career working with WESRAY of Morristown, of which she retired from.

She volunteered with the Friends of Hanover taking special needs persons on field trips and she walked in a number of charities to find a cure for AIDS.

She is survived by her husband Bob, her children Bobby Hendry, Kristin and Rob Nemec, Johnny and Noelle Hendry and her sister Marilyn Kurak. She loved her grandchildren Rob and Erin Nemec, Chris, Cole, and Josie Nemec, Bella and Haven Hendry, RJ Hendry and all her nieces and nephews.
