A Middleton mother has been jailed without bond after violating her probation from a drunk driving conviction earlier this year.
Melody Ann Mitchell, 40, who lives in the family community near The Villages Charter School campus, was transferred to the Sumter County Detention Center on Tuesday following her arrest a few days earlier in Charlotte County where she was nabbed driving on a suspended license. Mitchell will remain behind bars until at least next Tuesday when a hearing is scheduled in Sumter County Court.

Mitchell lost her driver’s license in April after pleading no contest to a charge of driving under the influence. She was also placed on probation for one year and ordered to perform 80 hours of community service.
At the time of her original arrest in the wee hours of Jan. 11, Mitchell was at the wheel of a blue Porsche when she failed to maintain a proper lane, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. During a traffic stop, she admitted she had been drinking and said she’s just left a friend’s house. She said she “only wanted to go home.” She struggled through field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples that registered .243 and .233 blood alcohol content.
