ALDI is getting closer to its debut in The Villages after a $1 million store makeover.
The new ALDI coming to Lake Sumter Landing has a big banner proclaiming, “Coming Soon,” though an official opening date has yet to be announced.
The Winn-Dixie supermarket at Lake Sumter Landing was one of three locations in The Villages acquired by ALDI in 2023.
Its opening will mark ALDI’s debut in The Villages, although there are ALDI locations in Lady Lake, Oxford and Wildwood.
The particular store on Old Camp Road was originally a Sweet Bay supermarket, but was purchased and converted to a Winn-Dixie grocery store.
ALDI is the common company brand name of two German multinational family-owned discount supermarket chains operating over 12,000 stores in 18 countries. The chain was founded by brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht in 1946, when they took over their mother’s store in Essen, Germany.
